This Sour Patch Grapes Fruit Candy Recipe is going to change your way of life. Yes, it’s that serious! I was an addict when it came to sugar and absolutely loved the Sour Patch Kids candy. This simple grape and gelatin recipe is healthier and still feeds that craving!

Sour Patch Grapes Fruit Candy Recipe

Scott and I made these “Sour Patch” Grapes at the beach a few years ago. I’ll be the first to admit…I was skeptical. Before I started my fitness journey I could {and did} devour a bag of Sour Patch Kids in a day (or…maybe an hour). It was my favorite candy! I won’t say these taste exactly like Sour Patch Kids but they are pretty dang good!

Fun Flavor Combinations for Fruit Candy

While I love the combination of green grapes and lime gelatin mix, there are tons of ways you can mix and match for a similar candy flavor. Grapes are one of the best options as they are bite-sized already, but you can easily use other fruits for this candy option.

Fun gelatin flavors: Lime, Orange, Strawberry, Raspberry, Watermelon, Black Cherry, Peach, Strawberry Banana, and Cranberry

Look for gelatin mix that contains no artificial sweeteners and no high fructose corn syrup. It’s also best to avoid food coloring. While you can find your typical Jello products in the store (some without artificial sweeteners and no HFCS, and/or sugar-free), we’ve discovered these Simple Mixes Gelatin Variety Packs that are made with natural colors, flavors, and sweeteners. They are available in lime, strawberry, cherry, and orange (Oh, and they also have chocolate, vanilla, and butterscotch gelatin variety packs! Not good on fruit (!!) but good to know for other uses!).

Fruits to coat with gelatin: Green or red grapes, cotton candy grapes, bite-sized strawberries, pineapple chunks, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, kiwi, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and mandarin oranges.

How to Store Sour Patch Grapes

Typically when I make these grapes, they do not last long. However, sometimes making multiple flavors and combinations means you have a lot of extra after snack time. These do store well in freezer bags, but I prefer putting into portion-sized containers.

Note: When stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, these are best eaten within one week.

Should I Freeze the Grapes First?

This recipe is popular with many online, and there are tons of variations. One of them is to freeze the grapes first so they have a bit more crunch when eating. I love this idea as it would make preparing large batches last longer.

You can easily rinse and coat the grapes, then put into freezer bags or portion containers and pop into the freezer for an hour. They can then be stored in the freezer for up to one month to be eaten when convenient. This is perfect if you happen to find grapes or other fruits mentioned above on sale at a great price. Stock up and make these in big batches!

More Clean Eating Snacks

As mentioned above, I first made these when we were at the beach. I have a whole list of clean eating beach snacks you can check out if you are looking for cool and refreshing ideas. Another idea is this Sweet and Sour Gummy Candy Recipe. It definitely falls into that gummy candy category that is appealing to sugar addicts like myself.

If a more traditional sweet treat is on your mind, then you may love my cookie dough peanut butter cups, peanut butter granola bites, or peanut butter and jelly bars.
