Our She Sweats Summer Challenge began back in March. We had a lot of people change their lives in this short period of time and it was difficult to pick a winner. It was so close this time that we, nor our “outside judges”, could pick between the two so we decided to split the jackpot! You will meet #2 tomorrow…we are posting them in alphabetical order (by last name).
This is what Pam had to say:
“We got pregnant with our 2nd child in January 2013 and I ran throughout the entire pregnancy completing everything from a 5k to a marathon, pregnant!! Somehow I managed to gain even MORE weight than I did with my daughter!!
When I had my son in October 2013 I thought I’d be eager to get back out there and run. Not the case at all! I had burned myself out and the “mom of 2” lifestyle was more important. I enjoyed lazy days holding my son on the sofa and weeks began to fly by. In December I knew I had to get back on the ball and was still searching for my motivation. I began cutting out sugar and cutting back on wheat/grains. When the weight started coming off I started finding motivation to work out but I knew this time I wanted to do MORE than JUST running.
Whitney posted about the She Sweats 12 week challenge on her personal Facebook page – and I LOVE a good challenge. I had no idea what to expect…. But since I know Whitney, and I know she looks amazing, I decided to give it a whirl.
After a week I could FEEL my body wanting to change. By 3 weeks I could see and feel a difference. I currently feel stronger than I ever have – even before children!!!!
I know that a lot of runners feel burned out from running and once you stop it’s hard to find motivation. One thing they don’t realize is that it’s OKAY to take a step back from running!!! And it’s even more important to introduce other exercises that will not only prevent future burnout by spicing up your routine – but that it will also strengthen your running to make you a better runner!
Since my son was born in October 2013 I’ve done very limited cardio and REALLY limited running other than what the plan suggests. I decided to sign up for a 5k last minute just to see what strength training has done for me and where I was currently at. I was blown away to find that my new stronger legs and core helped me sail through the 5k with a finishing time comparable to where I was at in the peak of my running!! I’m even more excited to see where I can go from here!
I feel more confident about my body than I ever have and definitely feel stronger and more toned than I have been even before kids! I have always preached about adding in strength training to running – but for the first time in my life I can stand behind it and will NEVER go back to just putting in miles just to get miles. I’d rather run fewer quality miles than a lot of junk miles.
