GREEK YOGURT CREAM CHEESE
Are you having a hard time finding cream cheese? Or do you want to use a healthier alternative? Enter Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese! We’ve been using Greek yogurt in place of cream cheese for a long time and no one can taste the difference in our recipes!
ITEMS NEEDED TO GET CREAM CHEESE CONSISTENCY
- Greek Yogurt
- Cheesecloth
- Fine Mesh Strainer
- Bowl
It’s super simple and the only food ingredient you need is Greek yogurt (yes, seriously!). However, you’ll also need cheesecloth and a little bit of time to allow the Greek yogurt to drain in order to reach cream cheese consistency.
If you want to get creative and/or experiment you can also add coconut cream, pure vanilla extract, and/or stevia (or sweetener of your choice).
HOW TO MAKE GREEK YOGURT CREAM CHEESE
Determine how much cream cheese you would have used in your particular recipe and add 3-4 ounces to that amount when you are measuring out your cream cheese. For example, if you need 20 ounces of cream cheese, measure out 24 ounces of Greek yogurt.
Using a cheesecloth, drain the water out of the Greek yogurt. We typically use a small strainer that will fit over our bowls. Put the strainer over the bowl, line it with cheesecloth, and then add the Greek yogurt. Allow the Greek yogurt to drain for at least two hours (the longer the better).
Once drained, you can use the Greek yogurt as your cream cheese (adding any other ingredients you want) and discard the liquid and cheesecloth (or clean and reuse the cheesecloth). It’s so easy!
