Key Lime Pie Protein Shake for Breakfast
Breakfast doesn’t have to be boring! I love mixing things up and making a smoothie or a shake for my morning meal. It feels like I am cheating, but is still full of energy giving protein, and bright flavor. Key Lime Pie is one of my favorite desserts, so of course, I wanted to try my hand at making this protein shake with the same flavors.
Picking the right protein powder
Confused about which protein powder to use? Check out our review of whey protein powder and plant-based protein powder. You’ll definitely find a new favorite! Finding the right protein powder is a must. If you don’t like the flavor or texture, you won’t use it as you should. These are our personal favorites, and I know you will love them as much as I do.
Don’t forget to add frozen squash to your protein shakes! Yes, squash – you can’t taste it. We shared this protein shake trick and so far everyone who has tried it loves it! Learn more about this unexpected ingredient here.
The trick to perfectly smooth protein shakes
Everyone always asks me how to make a protein shake smooth and not lumpy or grainy. The trick is honestly to use a good quality blender. No matter what ingredients you choose for your smoothie or shake, you need to have the right way to blend them.
There are a few blenders that are very popular, but sometimes they are not in your price range. My recommendations below include an option for every budget level.
- Vitamix Blender ($350-$500 on average)
- Breville Fresh & Furious Blender ($150-$200 on average)
- Ninja Auto IQ Blender ($100 on average)
- Hamilton Beach Power Elite ($40-$65 on average)
What if I want a different flavor protein shake for breakfast?
Try your hand at this shake, but don’t fear, you can definitely make different flavored shakes for your first meal of the day. Have fun using the base recipe with other yummy fruit blends to suit your taste buds! Below are a few of my favorite options, but feel free to experiment to find one you love.
- Coffee Protein Shake
- Blueberry Avocado Protein Smoothie
- Chocolate Almond Oatmeal Protein Shake (tastes like a Wendy’s frosty!)

COMMENT FROM PREVIOUS WEBSITE (ADMIN):
I have NEVER commented on anyone’s blog post before but I absolutely had to on this! I was blown away with how great this was! I wasn’t expecting it to be that good, but it was incredible! Tasted exactly like a how a key lime pie shake would with 1000+ calories from an ice cream shop. I used 1/2 TBSP of agave instead of stevia since I didn’t have it. This was my first recipe to try from your website & now I can’t wait to try more! 🙂 Thank you!

Made mine with unsweetened vanilla cashew milk & added a bit of psyllium husk for extra fiber. Used flavorless Isopure protein powder, so added in allulose for sweetener & a bit of vanilla extract. Tastes great and is very filling, which I don’t typically find to be the case with protein smoothies. Thanks!
