Simple Apple Crisp Oatmeal Bake

I must admit, this recipe has been stuck in my draft folder for months. I just realized I never posted it. I’m so sorry that you have missed out on months of making this amazing recipe! I honestly don’t make this very often because my self-control goes straight out the window but it is so good! You should definitely try it.

Oatmeal is a favorite breakfast, but sometimes I don’t want a basic bowl of oatmeal. This baked easy apple crisp version is a great change to traditional oatmeal at breakfast.

What are the Best Apples for Apple Crisp Oatmeal?

For a recipe like this, a slightly softer apple can work great. I almost always reach for Granny Smith for recipes, but don’t keep them on hand for snacking. So, a classic Honeycrisp would also work well for this recipe.

The only type of apple I would discourage you from using int his apple crisp oatmeal bake is the Red Delicious. They are sturdy but don’t have the depth of flavor you are looking for in an apple recipe.

Can I make this Baked Apple Crisp Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can. This is a great recipe to make on the weekend and serve each morning throughout the week. Just cover or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until time to heat and eat each morning.

Pro Tip: Once you take it from the oven and allow it to cool, measure portions out into microwave safe containers. This makes it a perfect morning grab-and-go breakfast.

What should I serve with this Apple Crisp Baked Oatmeal?

This recipe is a very satisfying recipe by itself, however, some people do better throughout the day with a bit more substantial breakfast. This pairs well with a few pieces of bacon, breakfast ham, or eggs. You could even make homemade sausage or grill chicken breasts to go alongside this for a more traditional pairing.

Worried about needing more protein? Don’t be! A 1/2 cup serving of oats has nearly 9 grams of protein by itself. Add into it the protein found in the unsweetened almond milk, and this is a wonderful protein-rich breakfast even without an additional meat portion.
