Looking to drop that extra water weight and reduce bloating? Try Jillian Michaels’ detox water – It is a natural diuretic drink!
Plain and simple…just the way we like it! Jillian Michaels’ detox water consists of distilled water, cranberry juice, organic dandelion root tea and lemon juice. Why these particular ingredients mixed together? It’s a natural diuretic drink!
But WAIT! Isn’t distilled water bad for you? The short answer is no…distilled water isn’t bad for you. Many people have this misconception because distilled water is slightly acidic and doesn’t contain any organic minerals because everything except for the pure H2O is removed during the distillation process. You want to use distilled water for a cleanse or detox because you want the pure water to help remove toxins from your system, not add more toxins back into your system!
Moreover, your kidneys regulate the minerals you consume through the foods you eat, so unless you have existing kidney issues (and contrary to the opinions in the comments section), this drink will not harm you! With that said, we use spring water or alkalized water for daily water consumption while not detoxing. We don’t recommend distilled water for daily consumption because our diets are already very acidic by nature, so alkaline water is the best way to go to keep your pH balance in check.
JILLIAN MICHAELS’ DETOX WATER
This is a detox water that you drink along with your clean, healthy meals…it is not designed to be a full-fledged cleanse, rather it should be used to reduce bloating and water weight. It’s perfect to drink when you’re seven days away from a big event.

Nikki says
How often do you consume this daily? Like 1 cup a day? Please advise. Thanks
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Nikki, Did you read the post? You drink all 60 oz each day (so you make a new batch each day). I drink mine for 7 days and usually do it every 3 months or so. Hope this helps.
Ellen Briganti says
This detox water definitely works and I actually like the bitter taste. I’m wondering however if it’s not meant to be consumed longer than 7 days? I have always consumed a minimum of 60oz of water on a daily basis but have enjoyed this drink and the results.
Dottie says
Do you boil the whole bag of tea?
Whitney Carlson says
Yes!
Rolanda Joy says
Can you just drop the tea bag in the jug with the water, lemon juice and cranberry juice. Or is it recommended to boil the tea bag in water?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Rolanda! Definitely boil first! 🙂
Tara says
So 1tbs of cranberry juice per 60 ounces or is that per 8 ounces?
Whitney Carlson says
I usually add 1-2 TBSP for the entire 60 ounces but you could do more if you wanted.
Bianca Gurrola says
How many oz do I add of the tea to the water?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Bianca, You just boil water for the tea (like a regular cupful) and then add that to the water.
Debbie says
So do you boil the whole 60 oz of water that’s the confusing part??
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Debbie! No, you just boil a cupful of water like you would for normal tea. You can use spring water or the distilled water.
Gloria Griffin says
I saw this recipe on another site. I am currently on day 10 of it. I didn’t know it was supposed to be only 7 days then wait 12-16 weeks. This won’t do any damage if I stop today will it?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Gloria! No, you are fine. 🙂 I hope you liked it!
Sara says
Is there any special diet to go by?
Whitney Carlson says
Just eat healthy! You can use one of our meal plans below:

VeeVee says
So do you boil the Tea bag in the distilled water or different water and then add it to the distilled water?
Whitney Carlson says
I boil mine in different (spring) water but you could do it either way.
Amy Jones says
So basically it’s 1 8oz cup of tea then you add another 7.5 cups of water?
Whitney Carlson says
Yes, that is correct.
Maria Johnson says
Do you eat with this
Whitney Carlson says
Yes
Karmela says
Can you please tell me how much is 60oz in ml? And how much is lemon juice and cramberry juice in ml. Tbsp is hoe much ml?
Thx
Colleen says
1oz in 30ml. So 60oz= 1800 ml
1tablespoon = approx 15 ml
2 tablespoons = 30 ml
Maria says
So I’m drinking one 8oz glass of this a day or 7.5 which is 60oz a day? Your post is confusing as well as some of your comments on answers about this.
Thank you
Whitney Carlson says
60 oz per day
BJ says
Can you eat or just drink the the drink only?
Whitney Carlson says
You still eat. 🙂

COMMENTS FROM PREVIOUS WEBSITE (ADMIN):
You can also cold brew the tea with ice water right in the mix. No boiling needed! I drop my tea bag in. Add ice, the juice and the water. I leave the bag in until I’m almost done drinking it. Then I drink the rest without the bag in it but it’s all “brewed”!
So I’ve done this several times- and I’ve lost weight, but has anyone had reactions on their tongue? Mine gets irritated and red. I looked it up and I might have an allergy to the dandelion root. It bothered me enough to not to do this again- but it does work!
Drinking this tea as I type!!! Surprisingly it is really good! After smelling the dandelion root tea I was concerned about how it would taste. I could drink this everyday instead of plain water.
Just wondering WHY you couldn’t do this all the time? People drink dandelion root tea every day along with their daily amount of water so what’s the difference? Just curious because I really actually like this drink and would drink it for more than 7 days
Take some water from the 60 oz. Brew your tea in it and pour it back into the mixture. Some people just put in the tea bag into the mixture without brewing it.
Target has the same container for $1.99 depending on where you live. But it is less than $5 and yes it fits the 60 oz.
yes one tea bag for the 60 oz. I place the tea bag in hot water only for 2 minutes than i pour it into the mixture. Maybe I will try it without brewing it.
Yeah it is a lot of water. But, I drink a lot of water as is. Not even 2 hours my container is half way gone.
Today is my first day trying this cleanse. I added another lemon so the mixture can taste a bit better. I purchased my tea from fresh & easy. It is in a blue metal container. A bit pricey but after reading so much great reviews online I had to try it myself. The flavor is an almond/vanilla taste. I love it! It does have dandelion roots in it.
It tastes a little bitter. Not sure how to explain it. But, I just added more lemon into my mixture.
I added a tablespoon of cranberry juice. That helped.
This sounds CRAZY, but… I started this yesterday and weighed myself that morning at 7 am and again at 7 am this morning and I’ve lost 5.4 lbs.
I don’t even boil the tea – I just drop it in the 60oz of water with the lemon and cranberry juices. I found that if I steep the tea too long the water doesn’t taste as good. I think the point is just to drink the water, and the tea and juices are kind of beside the point. Consuming 64oz of water every day; the theory is that there is ALWAYS at least a LITTLE water in your stomach, thus helping to prevent you from overeating. I don’t think anyone is seeing this as some kind of magic bullet instant pathway to being thin – at least I hope not. It’s safer than diuretic drugs, that’s for sure.
I tried this last year. I felt less bloated, but never weighed myself. Don’t nit pick the recipe. Get the ingredients and follow instructions or don’t. It’s pretty simple. I got my jug, threw everything in, let sit overnight in the fridge and sipped throughout the next day. I did not boil tea. The container pictured can be found at Walmart.
These comments are hilarious. Thank you all, both dumb and smart for the laughs.
Dandelion root tea, on its own breaks down fat, helps your digestive system and cleanses toxins but remember this is only a 7 day cleanse, it is not something you do all the time.
I am cracking up reading the comments from people with no common sense. I hope my gallon of 64oz distilled water doesn’t poison me. hehe
To the anonymous folks saying you shouldn’t drink distilled… do you know what distilled is? It’s a process where you boil the water and catch the steam. It’s the best way to purify water. No bacteria, no minerals, just water. Perfectly safe to drink.
Mel says
I started this today and was so full I didn’t eat much of a lunch. Does it matter when I drink this? I saw on another website that it’s recomended as a replacement or in addition to normal water intake. I was thinking I would drink it first thing in the morning every day. How long then should I wait to eat? Thank you!!
Whitney Carlson says
It doesn’t really matter when you drink it. I typically drink mine throughout the day. If you want to drink it in the morning you can and just eat whenever you want! You don’t have to wait a certain amount of time before eating. Make sure you are eating though. 🙂
Chrissie says
Do you have to use real cranberry juice? I bought diet cranberry.
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Chrissie, You can use that but next time if you make it try to get real cranberry juice. I’m not sure what’s in the diet one but the real cranberry one should only have cranberries. 🙂
Ashley Ledford says
I usually just drink lemon water so I am excited to try this! What a great way to start a “New Year Detox!” Thanks for sharing!
Amanda says
I run all my water through a Britta filter……can I just use that or does is have to be distilled or purified water?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Amanda! If you don’t have distilled you can use the filtered water. 🙂
Rolanda Joy says
Hi. Do you just consume this detox water throughout the day with your meals and snacks or do you drink it along with regular water? Like can you drink tea, coffee etc
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Rolanda, You can drink it whenever you want throughout the day and you can definitely still drink your tea and coffee! I hope this helps. 🙂
Rolanda Joy says
Very helpful. Thanks 🙂
Monica A Carlee says
Love it
Whitney Carlson says
I’m so glad you loved it, Monica! Thanks for taking the time to rate it and leave a comment. I hope you enjoy our other recipes also!
Lindsey N. says
This detox drink sounds fantastic. I can’t wait to try it, but where did you get the plastic jug to put your drink in? That looks like the perfect container to take to work with me.
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Lindsey! Yes, it’s the perfect size! 🙂 I believe we purchased it at Wal Mart or Target but they also have it on Amazon (affiliate link: https://amzn.to/2Dnyuq7). It’s a Rubbermaid 2 qt container. We also use it for big batches of unsweet tea and juice. I hope this helps!
kkSize says
This will be good to use after a weekend of not so clean eating. It will help jumpstart a healthy mindset and to hopefully continue making healthy choices every day.
Carolyn says
It says spring water is fine to use, but is RO water ok to use?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Carolyn, I don’t see why that would be a problem. We just don’t really like tap water. 😉
Julie says
I have a question it says fill up a picture to me a picture is a gallon but 60 ounces is not a gallon at 7 1/2 cups is that what you should do use also it’s really only one bag of tea
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Julie, Honestly it really doesn’t matter how much water you add as long as you do at least 60 ounces but I also wouldn’t do more than a gallon. It is only one bag of tea! I hope this helps.
Juliana says
What time should I drink this awesome recipe!
Whitney Carlson says
Anytime! I just sip mine throughout the day.
Brandy says
Can we make this mixture the night before and refrigerate it or leave it out at room temp???
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Brandy, I have left it out at room temperature before. I actually prefer my water at room temperature but most people would probably rather have it chilled. 🙂
Ruth Skare says
Do I still need to drink plain water when drinking this mixture?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Ruth! I usually only drink this but you can certainly drink plain water if you are still thirsty. 🙂
Annette Wood says
Whitney Clarkson you must be the most patient person I have come across on social media 😀 well done !
Joan says
I completed agree! Patience and grace…
Michelle Polk says
I have roasted dandelion root tea. Does it make a differnce?
Cassie says
Omg! You have the patience of a Saint! I think we should now call yourself Saint Whiteny..the Saint of the ones that ask silly questions that have been already asked!
Thanks fornthr patience!
Kimberly says
Im starting this on this Wednesday i hope this will help me lose weight as i am struggling
.
Julie says
I think the directions are confusing! So you make 60 ounces of water with 1 tea bag then it says follow the box which says 12 ounces of water for 1 tea bag. You only use 1 tbs of crab berry for 60 ounces of water?
Whitney Carlson says
Yes, I only use 1 TBSP for 60 ounces of water but you can use more if you want. As far as the water goes, you typically will brew the tea with only 12 ounces of water but then you will add it to the additional water. It doesn’t really matter though how much water you use as long as you have the listed ingredients.
Lianna says
Hi there! I believe someone else already asked this but I didn’t see the answer. Can I use roasted dandelion root tea or should it be raw? Thanks!
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Lianna, I use roasted! I hope this helps. 🙂
Jenny says
I’m so sorry for the stops question to follow… Lol I’m snowed in and have all the ingredients except the lemon juice. I only have bottled. Will this do in a pinch??
Whitney Carlson says
Yes! You can use bottled lemon juice. Have fun in the snow! :)))
Jamie says
What is this drink supposed to do? What are the proven benefits after the 7 days are over?
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Jamie, I’m not sure of any “proven” benefits but for many people, it reduces bloating. I personally like the taste of it and it gets me to drink more water. 🙂
Amy says
What happens if you go past seven days?
Jim says
I used this recipe before and it works. Very easy to make. I drink the 60 ounces throughout the day.
I cant believe the stupid questions people submit. Maybe you need to post a cleanse that increases intelligence.
Rita says
These questions remind me of back to school night… Whitney is as patient as a teacher!!!
Whitney Carlson says
Hahahahah! Sometimes I am more patient than others. A lot of times I have to take deep breaths before replying to people. 🙂
Lela says
Do u put this in the refrigerator ? Or put it over ice
Whitney Carlson says
Hi Lela, I usually put it in the refrigerator but you can also just put it over ice.
Donna White says
Love this drink! Started drinking this on Sunday, forgot to weigh in til Tuesday. Today, (Thursday) down 5 lbs since Tuesday. I’ve also been drinking 28oz of green tea and also just plain water making a total of over 100oz a day.
Mel says
I’ve been making this recipe that I found on your blog for years now. It’s pretty good, I half the water and then drink the rest of the water separately because I don’t like drinking it with my meals. Thank you for posting this all those years ago.
Megan barry says
Can I used roasted dandelion root tea?
Andrea says
Do you leave this mix on the counter all day or can it be refrigerated?
Whitney Carlson says
I always put it in the refrigerator!
