ABC worked with researchers to debunk the myth of whether you can be ADDICTED to sugar or if it is pure fallacy. The findings are remarkable.

As you can see, the areas in red are reactions occurring in the brain as a result of the sugar intake. Tennie, the self-professed "sugar addict's" brain scan is on the left, where a "normal" brain scan with the same amount of sugar intake is on the right. The differences are astounding! It's amazing how so little can affect our bodies so much!
Watch the 5 minute segment on the sugar addiction study.
Has this caused you to think about sugar in a different way? Do you think that you are addicted to sugar?

ReplyDeleteHi Kathy!
DeleteIt's really scary just how real sugar addiction is. Just trust yourself that you know what's best for yourself and it's not sugar! You can do it! We are all behind you. We will pray for you this week - keep up the good work. Commit to it!

I know I am, and have been all my life. However, after just my first week on my clean diet, I found no craving for it. I'm at 4 weeks now, and find I'm always full and have lost my cravings for salt and sugar. I absolutely feel better and am losing weight. I'm so sold on this way of eating. It is my new lifestyle now. I can confidently say that for the first time ever. I don't consider clean eating a diet at all, but a new way of life.
DeleteThat is amazing! You can definitely kick this! Don't let it run your life - RUN IT! You are SO much bigger than that!
DeleteThis made me very teary. One day at a time I am going to kick this. I have struggled with food addiction since I was 8 years old. At times I would kick it but to only put something in it's place: alcohol, overspending, etc. Today, I choose to work on the FOOD addiction one day at a time and to not replace it with another crutch. This video was very validating. An aha moment of sorts. I have my refrigerator oatmeal made for the week and will be working on meals later today. I truly tackle this one day at a time.

Kendra,
DeleteYou can do this girl! You don't need to replace one addiction with another - just find support! You have us! Also, try to make friends at your gym that have similar goals as you - you will find that this support is what you need MORE than the support of buying a new dress or 20 pairs of shoes.
Good luck and please, please, please keep us posted on your journey!
Tiffany and the entire gang!
I have tried many times to quit my sugar addiction with the same results as Anonymous. This time, I added a daily women's multivitamin and had a headache on the first day but that was it! I have been going strong for the last two weeks with no cravings, energy like I have never seen and saw the scale 16 lbs less than it was 2 weeks ago :) I am never going back to the sugar induced life again!
ReplyDeleteLindsay, that is fabulous and SO very exciting! You are an inspiration to all! Keep it up!
DeleteCan you recommend a good book to help me get started on the eating clean lifestyle? I also have to eat gluten free so I'm hoping it's easily adaptable with this as it seems to be from what I've been reading online so far. Any resources to help me get a jumpstart on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteKaren,
DeleteYou can totally eat clean and gluten free at the same time. Many of our recipes (a complete list is under the "recipes" tab) are gluten free - just look for the GF after the link on the recipes tab.
I, as anonymous said below, would recommend reading a Tosca Reno book - specifically the Eat Clean Diet Recharged! - you can get it from Amazon at a great price - http://amzn.to/MLHJAP
Good luck and if you need any help, you can always reach us at thegang@heandsheeatclean.com
KarenD, if you look at the top of the page, and click on "Lifestyle", it gives some info on how to get started. Basically, if you want to buy a book, I suggest anything by Tosca Reno. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for helping out our readers! We love Tosca too!
DeleteThis woman had'nt had sugar in 18 years...how could she be addicted? Seems like the brain scan might have indicated that she was freaking out because she HAD'NT had sugar in 18 years... but i still believe in sugar addiction lol
